Training & Competence Development

Building the Operational Capability Your Asset Needs

Delivering a project is one challenge. Ensuring that the operating organisation can sustain it at design performance — safely, efficiently, and over the long term — is another. SPEC’s Training & Competence Development service bridges the gap between project completion and sustained operational excellence, building the technical and operational capability that client organisations need to manage their assets with confidence.

SPEC draws on 25 years of project delivery experience — and a track record of long-term O&M contract delivery — to design and implement competency programmes that are grounded in real operational requirements, not classroom theory.

Operations Competency Programmes

Structured competency-based training programmes for operations personnel covering process understanding, equipment operation, normal and abnormal operating procedures, safety management, and permit-to-work disciplines. Programmes are developed specifically for the facility type and client operating context.

Maintenance Training

Technical training for maintenance teams covering static and rotating equipment maintenance, instrumentation and control systems maintenance, and preventive maintenance programme management. Delivered on-site at the facility or at SPEC’s training facilities.

Commissioning & Startup Support Training

Pre-startup competency preparation for client operating teams, covering system familiarization, startup operating procedures, emergency response, and first-production management. Delivered in parallel with SPEC’s commissioning activities.

Technical Authority Development

Development programmes for client technical authority personnel, building the technical leadership capability required to manage operating facilities safely and effectively without ongoing contractor support.

HSE & Permit-to-Work Training

Site-specific HSE induction, permit-to-work system training, and emergency response training aligned with the facility’s safety management system and regulatory requirements.

National Content Development

Structured programmes to develop in-country technical and operational talent in support of client national content obligations and long-term workforce localisation objectives.
SPEC’s training and competence programmes are delivered through a combination of classroom instruction, computer-based learning, simulator training, on-the-job coaching, and structured competency assessment. Programmes can be delivered on-site, at client facilities, or at SPEC training centres. All programmes are designed against a formal competency framework, with objective assessment criteria and documented evidence of competency attainment.
