SPEC delivers EPCC projects across the energy value chain — from upstream production and gas processing to downstream refining and petrochemicals. Our markets reflect 25 years of focused execution where our capabilities and our clients’ requirements align most closely.

From Wellhead to First Export.

SPEC has delivered upstream oil and gas projects across Sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East, South Asia, and the CIS region for over 25 years. Our upstream EPCC capability covers the full range of onshore production, separation, and processing infrastructure — from early production facilities in frontier environments to large-scale gas processing complexes integrated with broader field development programmes.

SPEC brings in-house upstream process engineering capability, developed through decades of project delivery, to bear on every upstream scope we execute. We understand the specific demands of upstream project delivery: remote locations with limited logistics infrastructure, aggressive schedules driven by production start dates, stringent HSE requirements in environmentally sensitive areas, and the need for facilities that operate reliably with minimal maintenance intervention.

– Early Production Facilities (EPFs) — rapid-deployment production facilities for early monetization of discovered reserves

– Crude and Gas Gathering Systems — gathering networks, separation trains, and metering systems

– Crude Stabilisation & Dehydration — desalters, crude dehydrators, electrostatic treaters for crude oil stabilisation and water removal prior to export

– Gas Processing Plants — GOSP, dehydration, amine treating, glycol units, NGL recovery

– Water Injection & Treatment — produced water processing, injection systems, de-oxygenation

– Wellhead & Satellite Facilities — wellhead control systems and tie-in packages

– Produced Water Disposal Systems — water reinjection and surface disposal systems in compliance with environmental standards

SPEC delivers complete upstream facility scopes including all Outside Battery Limits (OSBL) infrastructure. Clients frequently split ISBL and OSBL awards on major projects — SPEC has the capability and experience to execute either scope independently or as a combined package.

– Storage tanks and product export terminals — atmospheric tankage, LPG spheres and bullets, metering skids

– Power generation and distribution — package power plants, HV distribution, UPS and emergency power

– Utilities systems — instrument air, nitrogen generation, potable water treatment, waste water management

– Fire and gas protection — area fire and gas detection, firewater systems, foam suppression

– Camp and site infrastructure — permanent and temporary accommodation, control buildings, warehousing

– Access roads and site civil works — site preparation, drainage, paving, fencing, and boundary infrastructure

Complex Refinery Units. Delivered to Specification

SPEC has delivered downstream refining and petrochemical projects using licensed process technology from the world’s leading technology providers. Our downstream EPCC capability encompasses complex refinery units, modular refinery projects, and associated petrochemical facilities — with particular expertise in the processing technologies most prevalent in the markets where SPEC operates.

Downstream projects carry specific execution challenges: precise process performance guarantees tied to technology licensor warranties, integration with existing operating units in brownfield scopes, and startup sequences that require sustained high-temperature and high-pressure operations from day one. SPEC has delivered across all of these challenges on multiple projects across Africa, the Middle East, and Asia.

  • Crude Distillation Units (CDUs) — atmospheric distillation of crude oil, full scope from FEED through commissioning
  • Vacuum Distillation Units (VDUs) — vacuum distillation of atmospheric residue for downstream conversion units
  • Naphtha Hydrotreaters — pre-treatment for reforming and isomerization units
  • Catalytic Reformers — semi-regenerative and continuous catalyst regeneration (CCR) configurations
  • Isomerization Units — C5/C6 isomerization for octane improvement
  • Residue Fluid Catalytic Cracking Units (RFCC) — conversion of vacuum residue to lighter, higher-value products
  • Scanfining Units — FCC naphtha selective hydrodesulfurization (Honeywell UOP Scanfining technology) for gasoline sulphur compliance
  • Alkylation Units — production of high-octane alkylate for gasoline blending
  • Hydrocrackers — conversion of heavy vacuum gas oil to base oil grades 2 and 3, executing under Shell hydrocracking technology licence
  • Gasoline Production Complexes — modular and semi-permanent complexes using Honeywell UOP licensed technology

SPEC has delivered projects under licence from Honeywell UOP (reforming, isomerization, FCC naphtha treating, NGL recovery) and Shell (hydrocracking for base oil production). Our engineering teams are experienced in integrating licensor design packages into full EPCC project execution, managing the interface between licensor requirements and project engineering deliverables from FEED through commissioning. For upstream process systems, SPEC applies proprietary in-house process engineering developed through 25 years of field project delivery.

SPEC delivers refinery OSBL infrastructure as standalone or integrated scope. Clients operating refineries in emerging markets frequently award OSBL scope separately from process units — SPEC has experience executing both, and is well positioned to take either scope or both together under a single EPCC contract.

  • Cooling water systems — cooling towers, distribution headers, chemical dosing
  • Product export systems — metering, loading arms, jetty packages

From Wellhead Gas to Sales Product
